***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***
Max is a 2-year-old 10-pound Chihuahua Pomeranian mix. His tail wags eagerly wanting to be part of any action going on in the house. He loves to be around his people, so he is looking for a home where someone will be around most of the time. He gets so excited when he sees a person and jumps up and down with his tail saying “I am happy and want attention.”
Playing with toys is something Max enjoys doing carrying them around or throwing them in the air. He will start playing with one toy for a few minutes then picks another toy then onto another toy. He even likes tug-of-war! He has a short attention span for each and it is fun to watch because he is so pleased having a selection of toys.
Max is crate trained but prefers to hang out on sofas with tons of blankets surrounding him. He also likes to be scratched behind his ears or on his butt and shows you by his movements how much he enjoys it.
4 Lucky Dogs is recommending that Max live in a single-family house with a fenced-in yard. Because he can be vocal it means a townhouse, condo, or apartment would not be a good fit.
Max will not be adopted to anyone with young children or grandchildren. Max can be defensive if caught by surprise and may want to nip such if someone is wiping his paws or wanting to attach his leash. He is a very loving dog but we do not know Max’s past regarding what may make him scared at times, so we want to make sure he goes into an environment with adults who understand to use some caution while he adapts to their family members and new situations.
He may not ask on his own to go out, so the adopter needs to be willing to take him out on a regular basis. He was trained by his previous owner to go to the bathroom on a pee pad. The foster family has been working on praising Max for going potties outside so he learns that is what a dog should do. If let out frequently he will hold his pee/poop. But if because of timing Max is not able to hold his pee/poop he will appropriately use the pee pad. The adopter needs to know that this training of going outside will need to be continued until Max is fully trained to not use the pee pad anymore.
He came into 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue because his owners could not care for him any longer. They said he knows words such as stay, sit, no, go, and spin. Max has always lived as an only dog. The foster family has found out he does not like cats or bigger dogs.
The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Max’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 13 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again.
Max’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, is heartworm tested, and dewormed. He is currently being fostered in the Valrico/Riverview area.
