Learn more about the Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. Missy Elliot needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
Missy is a six-year-old Yorkie and weighs about 12 pounds. Terms to describe her are inquisitive, enthusiastic, loyal, and loving. The most noticeable part is her adorable face and smile with teeth showing. People that have seen her comment “aw, how cute!”. She is very active and full of energy therefore needs an adopter who will be able to keep up with her activity level for numerous years. Missy loves walks. The moment she sees her harness or leash picked up she goes into endless excitement jumping up and down and running for the door. While walking on a leash she is calm and focused watching everything around her. Missy will walk for 30 minutes then once she comes home wants to go again! She also enjoys car rides with the same idea that she gets to go somewhere. When in the car she likes the backseat so she can go back and forth between each window. If someone goes into the garage Missy follows him/her and goes to the car door wanting to get in. The foster family took Missy to the Medard Park in Plant City. Missy loved it! She climbed up and down hills, up or over tree branches, walked the fields, etc., for about an hour. Then when she got back to their home, she was still full of energy wanting to be part of every activity going on. The fosters thought Missy would want to sleep but she surprised them continuing the non-stop moving around the house. Being around people is Missy’s main goal. She will follow family members around the house and the minute they sit down is right there next to them to cuddle or crawl on top of a lap. If someone is sitting in a chair where there is not room for her (like one in front of a computer), she will lay at the person’s feet just to be near him/her. And if the humans are busy, Missy sits patiently in another chair staring waiting for their next move and then gets up and shadows them. She is a true lap dog. One time her foster mother was on the phone and Missy sat on her lap the entire hour. If Missy sees someone sitting in a chair she gets between his/her legs and tries to crawl up on the lap insisting she needs to be on it. And Missy is a jumper. She will hop up on each bed in her foster home, the sofa including the very top, and every type of chair including a computer chair, dining room chair, and recliner chair. The foster family is amazed her agility. Missy’s story is that her original owner of six years had to go into nursing home due to a medical condition and could not take Missy with her. They chose to give her to 4 Lucky Dogs rescue so she could be re-homed. The average lifespan for Yorkshire Terriers average is 15 years so her adopter will need to be prepared to care for Missy for around nine years because she should not have to move to a different home again. The ideal situation for Missy is to be in the house where she is the only dog so can receive all the attention from her forever family. With Missy’s personality we suggest no children or possibly older children. The best fit will be an adopter who wants to take her on daily walks, car rides, and outside adventures. Her adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, spayed, and up to date on shots and vaccines. You can apply for her at www.4luckydogs.org.
