4 Lucky Dogs has no facility in which to view dogs. All of our dogs are in loving fosters homes throughout West Central Florida. To be considered, please apply for our dogs at www.4luckydogs.org. As a general rule we do not adopt outside of the state of Florida unless the person/family is known to our rescue.
It’s time to find Willow her forever home. She has some home requirements so please read before proceeding. Willow came to us as if she had never seen a human before. It was obvious her experience with people was not positive. She is timid and afraid of almost everything. A month later and she allows her foster mom to touch her and has even wandered over to initiate touch. This is a huge improvement for her.
Her new home will need to be extremely patient with her. Allow her to adjust and decompress. This could take months possibly.
She requires a fenced yard. This is for her safety. If she were to escape, she will RUN and as scared as she is of everything, it would be hard to catch her, and she would put herself in grave danger.
She requires another dog or two in the home. Preferably a confident medium to larger size. She has been initiating play especially in the morning. (Shes an early riser.)
She enjoys her crate. She feels comfortable in it. Currently the door is left open so she can retreat if needed. However, she will spend ALL day in it if allowed. She has also presented with some resource guarding of it when her foster siblings got too close and growled. It is important to help her engage in life outside the crate.
She is very treat and food motivated. Has been known to counter surf to get to those bag of treats you may have left laying around.
She sneaks toys. She seems to like the antlers and is so cute watching her chew on them. It’s likely she never had anything like that before.
She appears to be housetrained and has not had an accident since the first couple of days in her foster home. Most likely she learned this from her foster siblings. She has full run of the house at night and when her fister mom is home. She does go in her crate when her foster mom isn’t home but again, it’s for her safety as it’s unknown what she may try and get into when not being supervised.
No little kids. Fast movements frighten her, loud noises frighten her, too much going on at one frightens her. Also small toys could easily get destroyed or consumed resulting in major problems.
She is not leash trained. The outside world is terrifying for her which is why the fenced yard is required. She will bolt if given the opportunity and a double leash would be recommended when leaving the home if she must. Dog parks and outdoor venues are not recommended for her. (At least not at this time.)
She does love attention. Although nervous, she has never attempted to bite or snap at anyone. As your hand goes closer and closer, you can see the fear, however, once the ear scratches and rub down begins, she relaxes and seems to enjoy it. Her foster mom has also placed her on the sofa with her and immersed her in pets and she fell asleep on her lap.
Again...slow is key.
She is a great girl and in time will make a perfect companion. Even one month in she is a different dog. It’s important to get her to her new home so she can acclimate to the change. She has been an easy dog to foster. Willow‘s adoption fee is $400 and she comes spayed and microchipped and fully vaccinated for a year.
