Learn more about the Chihuahua. Bacon needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
4 Lucky Dogs is not a shelter or facility where dogs can be viewed, as all of our rescue dogs are in loving foster homes throughout Florida. We do not usually adopt outside of the state of FL. If interested in finding out more about one of our dogs, please fill out an application at www.4luckydogs.org, and you will be contacted by phone if you are a fit. Bacon is a 12 to 18-month-old chihuahua and weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. He eyes stand out especially when he looks at you with love and is a genuinely happy dog wagging his tail all the time. Words to describe him are silly, cute, cuddly, adorable, sweet, and easy-going. Since he is so young, he is full of energy therefore needs an adopter who will be able to keep up with his activity level. He loves walks. The moment he sees his harness or leash picked up he gets so excited for it to be put on then goes running for the door. He knows where the harness/leash are kept in his foster home and checks on it regularly to make sure it is still there. The best fit for Bacon would be someone that likes to take dogs on walks. He used to live in an apartment so is accustomed to being put on a leash and taken outside to go to the bathroom. Being a young male, he likes to “mark” quite often so walks with all kinds of smells make him delighted. He wants to be included in everything going on in the foster family. The ideal situation for Bacon is a permanent family with a few members so someone is always able to give him the attention he craves. Bacon loves having a “place” in the house. He will go to a dog bed or couch inside a crate on his own (without the door shut) because he wants to know “this is where I belong” which in turn makes him extremely calm knowing that. He also loves belly rubs. He will turn onto his back and lay like that until you just cannot resist petting him. Being around people is Bacon’s main goal. He is a true lap dog. When his foster mother works from home and has online meetings Bacon insists on sitting on her lap. In fact, as his foster mother is writing this description about Bacon, he is happily content in her lap. Because he is young and recently neutered, he has had a few potty accidents in the foster home. He is so eager to please and gets excited that he sometimes has a hard time trying to hold his pee. As he matures and has a regular schedule in a permanent household the foster family believes he will be able to be fully potty trained. Bacon is an owner-surrender because it was not working out with the family who had two kids below the age of four. They chose to give him to 4 Lucky Dogs rescue so he could be re-homed. Bacon adores mature kids (age of 10 or older) such as his foster human sister. Smaller kids make him nervous since he is so little and they do not understand he is not a toy. We are recommending Bacon be the only dog in the household to get the attention he craves. He gets along with his foster sister and other dogs in the neighborhood but is not the type who is a playmate for another dog because he wants human companionship more. The average lifespan for this type of dog is 15 years so his adopter will need to be prepared to care for Bacon for around 13 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. His adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, and up to date on shots and vaccines. You can apply for him at www.4luckydogs.org.
