Tater Tot is a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and weighs about 16 pounds. Words to describe him are affectionate, loyal, sweet, and a people-person. If you are looking for a dog who will sleep curled up in your bed and who will be very devoted wanting to be with you constantly then Tater Tot is the dog for you!

He likes to follow people around in the house. If a foster member is sitting, he is content to lay next to them but if that person gets up to walk around, he is right there traveling with them throughout the house. Or if the person relocated too quickly, he explores each room looking for where he/she went. In the foster house there when there is a dog bed in a room Tater claims each as his own. As soon as following his foster mom into that room he jumps into the dog bed that is in there thinking in his head “my place!”. Otherwise, he likes jumping on sofas and chairs so he can be closer to his people.

When family members come home, he is at the door ready to greet them. He jumps up and down and then the minute they sit down he jumps on their lap. Tater Tot gets extremely attached which is good for someone who wants that closeness. He loves giving kisses and hopes you do too. Tater Tot figures out how to get petted when and where he wants. He somehow gets down just enough to a hand to be on top of his body and then pushes it backwards. That is talent!

He enjoys walks so the best fit for Tater Tot would be someone that likes to take dogs on walks. While walking on a leash he is calm and focused watching everything around him. Squirrels, birds, and ducks capture his attention, and it is fun to watch his head and eyes follow them.  At the park, a person even complimented Tater Tot on how well he walks.

Being around people is Tater Tot’s main goal. He needs to always be near people. Whether it is a dog bed or a lap or a bed he wants to be included in everything going on in the foster family. The ideal situation for Tater Tot is a family where one person is always available to give him the attention he craves.

He loves playing with toys, especially a ball. He will walk around the house with the ball in his mouth throwing it up in the air or releasing it to see where it rolls then runs after it. When he is done entertaining himself, he brings the ball to humans dropping it at their feet until they pick it up and throw it or roll it with their feet. He invented his own game of burying himself under sheets/blankets then twisting out of it

His foster family discovered at night he wants to be curled up next to a person when sleeping. The adopter will need to be someone that is willing to let Tater in his/her bed. He is not crate-trained and gets panicky when put in one. Therefore, the adopter cannot be someone that plans to crate him. Tater is fully potty-trained and does not try to run away so should not need a crate.

We learned that Tater Tot is very social at outings. The rescue had an event and Tater eagerly met each dog and kept putting himself in the center so all the people would show interest in him. Tater Tot is an owner-surrender due to difficult hard financial circumstances. She chose to give him and her three other dogs to 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue so they could be re-homed.

Since Tater has always lived with other dogs it would be best if he could go into a permanent home that has a least one other dog. The foster family has seen Tater rely on the other dog in the house for guidance and security. They go on walks together every day and sometimes play tug-of-war with each other. Tater hangs out with other dog when the family needs to leave for errands or work.

The average lifespan for a Jack Russell Terrier is 13 to 16 years. Since Tater Tot is only six years old his adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for a possible 10 years so he will not have to move to a different home again.

His adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, and up to date on shots and vaccines. You can apply for him at www.4luckydogs.org.

*** 4 Lucky Dogs is not a shelter or facility where dogs can be viewed. All our rescue dogs are in loving foster homes throughout Florida. We do not usually adopt outside of the state of FL.
