Learn more about the Poodle (Standard).
Sandy is a 3-year-old female Moyen poodle which is a size between miniature poodle and standard poodle. Her color is considered Merle which is the patterns shown in the picture. She weighs about 28 pounds. Words to describe her are intelligent, affectionate, silly, loving, sweet, adorable, and beautiful. She has just started a brand-new life as a companion dog. Previously Sandy was used as a breeder and had three litters of puppies. She is now retired from breeding, has been spayed, and is ready to begin being a family dog. Being around people is Sandy’s main goal. She loves giving kisses and hopes the person will like receiving them. She will also paw and paw at someone until she gets them to pet her. She likes to follow people around in the house. If a foster member is sitting, she is content to lay next to her but if that person gets up to walk around, she is right there traveling with them throughout the house. Or if the person relocated too fast for her to notice, she explores each room looking for where she went because she “wants” her. On the first day at her foster home Sandy found a dog bed and made it her ‘place’ laying there all the time. They discovered she also likes flat surfaces such as treadmills and exercise mats which is slightly unusual. Sandy considers them comfortable, so her foster family has learned to look for her hanging out on them. Recently she started getting on the sofa which pleased her tremendously being at the same level as the family. Sandy has been finding out how much fun toys are. Her favorite ones are the squeaky kind. She is mimicking what her foster sister does with the toys such as carrying around the same toy she did. Collecting toys is entertaining for Sandy to see how many different one she can put in her dog bed. And if the foster family is missing a sock they know to look near Sandy because she loves “stealing” them as a prize toy. Chewing on bones (and once on a sandal) is also something that brings excitement to her as if she is a puppy again. She is very thrilled to take walks on a leash around the neighborhood. She walks calmly and stays right beside her foster mother as if she had been trained on the correct way of walking. But cars driving by scare her, so her foster family has avoided walking on busy roads. She loves having freedom in the big fenced-in foster family’s yard to explore and sometimes run. Sandy is OK with children, but only older mature ones. She attaches herself to women and is slightly cautious around men. The average lifespan for this type of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Sandy’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for her for around 12 more years so she will not have to move to a different home again. Sandy’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, spayed, and up to date on shots and vaccines. You can apply for her at www.4luckydogs.org. *** 4 Lucky Dogs is not a shelter or facility where dogs can be viewed.
