Rose is a 17-month-old chihuahua who weighs about 10 pounds. Her eyes stand out as she looks at you with so much love in them. Words to describe her are calm, sweet, adorable, and lovable. If you are looking for a companion who wants to just hang out near you, or who wants a dog to take on short walks, then Rose is the dog for you!

She is an owner-surrender due to the older woman that had her passing away. She had Rose since she was a small puppy. The owner’s family chose to give her to 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue deciding it was best for the dog to start over again in a new home with a family that will give her all the attention she needs.

Rose’s version of playing is walking around with a toy in her mouth. She gets a small toy and then will march all around the house making whiny noises in her mouth proudly showing everyone what she has in her possession. When she is done, she puts the toy back in her crate for safe keeping. It is funny to watch how this demonstration of “mine” makes her so pleased with herself. The foster family has found it amusing and entertaining to see her so happy.

She is very thrilled to take walks on a leash around the neighborhood. The foster finds it cute how Rose’s tail wags the entire time she is on a walk. In the backyard at her foster home, she looks around for a bit then goes to the bathroom and wants to immediately come back in the house. But, when the harness and leash are being put on, she gets very excited and runs to the front door wanting it to be opened so she can go out for her walk. She is very well-mannered when returning from the walk waiting near the door for someone to remove her walking gear. Rose likes to go on shorter walks that are close to the vicinity of her home. She knows where home is and does not want to stray far from it. If the foster mother wants to take a longer walk she sometimes needs to carry Rose, but as soon as Rose recognizes the house where she lives she willingly walks the rest of the way back.

Car rides make Rose very nervous and she pants/shakes. With her previous owner she did not travel much in the car, so it is a new experience for her. 4LD feels in time Rose will be fine in the car – we want to alert the potential adopter that initially Rose will not be the kind of dog to take on trips for a while until she gets more secure that a car ride can be fun.

Rose loves being on furniture like sofas and beds, but her short legs prevent her from getting up there on her own. Once someone puts her there, she makes herself very comfy. At night in her current foster home Rose sleeps in a regular bed with her human foster sister and her dog foster sister.

Rose will go into her crate on her own (without the door shut) because knows “this is where I belong”. Even though she is free to roam in the foster house she often chooses her crate. It is placed in the center of the home so she can then see everything going on around her. Or if she wants to take a quick nap, she knows she will not be disturbed being in that crate. Whoever adopts Rose will need to have a crate before Rose can live there because of her immediate need of crate security.

4LD feels that Rose can either be placed in a home with another dog or can be the only dog as long as the adopter has availability to spend dedicated time with her. The best home for Rose is one without children. She is OK to cuddle with an older child, but Rose is not the type of dog to play with children. We want to set the expectation that she is not the one to be active with a child like running and playing with him/her. Rose is more of a home buddy wanting to lay near an adult for her own feeling of protection.

The average lifespan for this type of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Rose’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for her for around 13 more years so she will not have to move to a different home again.

Rose’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, spayed, and up to date on shots and vaccines. You can apply for her at www.4luckydogs.org. The foster home that is currently keeping Rose is in the Tampa Bay/Valrico/Plant City area.

*** 4 Lucky Dogs is not a shelter or facility where dogs can be viewed. All our rescue dogs are in loving foster homes throughout Florida. We do not usually adopt outside of the state of FL. If interested in finding out more about this dog, please fill out an application and you will be contacted by phone if you are a fit.***
