***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.*** Max is a 2-year-old 12-pound Rat Terrier mixed with chihuahua. He is a genuinely happy dog, and his personality shows so much enthusiasm for life. Words to describe him are energetic, sweet, outgoing, loving, and adaptable. His eyes are big and black which gives him that adorable look. His tail wags eagerly wanting to be part of any action going on in the house. If being held or sitting on a lap he will sneak in a kiss showing you he is pleased. Max loves being told when he is a “good boy”. He loves to be around his people, so he is looking for a home where someone will be around most of the time. He wants to sleep with humans, so adopter(s) need to be willing to share their bed with him. He does not like to be crated so the adopter cannot plan on doing that. He also dislikes being “left behind” since he wants to be with people constantly so may bark if his family leaves him at home. Max would be fine as an only dog or as a companion for another dog. He likes to be involved in things and moves non-stop so if the environment is active, he will be fine. He is dog friendly and has lived with other dogs. He seems to want to chase and bark at cats so should not go to a home with cats. He likes to cuddle next to someone, sit on laps, or lay at a person’s feet to be near them. Playing is another activity Max likes especially with small toys. Those type fit in his small mouth which entertains him. He will carry a toy around from room to room, squeak a toy with delight, or shake a toy vigorously then throw it to go retrieve. When he gets excited and is playing with the foster, he can be a little bit mouthy until corrected him, so ONLY OLDER children are recommended. Max likes to tell you exactly what is on his mind! For example, “I want this” or “please pay attention to me” or “you are hanging with the other dog instead of me” by quick barks or whines then quiets down. His favorite room is the kitchen especially if he sees someone preparing a meal, he is right there at his/her feet seeing if any will be for him (or in his eyes helping cook!). Max has also discovered where the trash can is kept because it has such “wonderful” smells. And if food happens to be up high on a table Max is challenged and feels he “must” get to it so may surprisingly jump up on that table. He likes walks and spins around excitedly when the foster gets the leash out. He enjoys every moment of the walk smelling, peeing, and looking around. He also may bark on the walk if he wants to communicate an alert to his owner or a message to another dog. He is protective of his house and his family so barks if he feels he needs to defend (typical of dogs!). Examples the foster family has seen include if a family member gets home he bark-talks to tell them hello and happy they are back. Or if someone he does not know comes into the house he bark-talks to ask who they are. Then once he knows everything is OK, he excitedly greets them. 4 Lucky Dogs is recommending that Max live in a single-family house with a fenced-in yard. Because he can be vocal it means a townhouse, condo, or apartment would not be a good fit since close neighbors. The foster family has been correcting Max’s actions to lessen the barking. But since that may take more time, the adopter will need to continue with this training. He came into 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue because his owners could not care for him any longer. The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Max’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 13 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. Max’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, is heartworm tested, and dewormed. He is currently being fostered in the Plant City, FL area.
