***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***

Ace is a 2 ½ year old 15-pound Shih Tzu mixed with some poodle (we think because of his curly fur). He is a genuinely happy dog, and sometimes acts silly in a good way because he gets so excited. Words to describe him are energetic, adorable, and cute. He will run from room to room eagerly wanting to be part of any action going on in the house. Ace acts very puppy-like which is so fun to watch.

He came into 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue because his owner was very busy, and she had to move where pets were not allowed. She had him since a puppy and took excellent care of him. He adjusted immediately to his foster home (after investigating every corner of the house as dogs naturally do!) making 4LD feel he will adjust to another new permanent home easily.

Ace is partially house trained. He loves going outside in the yard and peeing/pooping there. But he also does some peeing/marking inside the house. His previous owner said she had a hard time teaching him not to go in the house, so he stayed in his crate a lot until she was able to take him out. The foster family has been working on him not marking in the house. 4LD want the adopter to know he/she will need to continue with this potty training which will require patience and understanding. Ace is young, extremely intelligent, and wants to please so with willingness by the adopter to take on the responsibility of potty training and setting a schedule Ace should be able learn the correct behavior of not to mark.

Ace’s favorite activity is playing especially with small toys that fit in his mouth like a ball, bumble bee, or squirrel. He entertains himself by carrying running, throwing – anything that a dog can do with a toy Ace does. Heads up - Ace considers everything in the house a toy such as socks, shoes, towels, rugs, cotton balls, etc. And Ace tends to think everything is playtime or a game so sometimes does not listen but is getting better with the foster family’s commands. He like to be involved in things and moves non-stop so if the environment is active, he will be fine.

Whenever he sees a harness or leash being picked up, he gets very excited that he is going somewhere. He likes walks enjoying every moment of it smelling, peeing, and looking around. He is a male who likes to mark at any chance he gets. According to his previous owner he walks very fast. Ace also loves running the foster family’s fenced-in backyard. He does circle laps or runs toward birds or simply enjoys himself going from one side to the other side discovering.

He is crate trained and has spent a good portion of his life in a crate because of his owner’s schedule. When placed in the crate because of leaving the house or nighttime he will bark for about five minutes. He then calms down and either quietly watches people that are around or goes to sleep. Ace loves having freedom in the house so once fully potty trained he will not need to be crated.

Ace can be the only dog in the household because that is how he lived the first few years of his life and because he likes to be the center of attention. Ace would also be good as a companion for another dog IF the existing dog is as active as he is and wants to have fun as much as he does. He will play with his foster sister the way dogs play such as tackling each other, but he has more energy than she does so when the twosome play is over, he grabs a chew toy to enjoy on his own.

The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Ace’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 13 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. And Ace is very active at his 2 ½ year age so adopter will need to be able to play with him often for numerous years since he has such a high energy level.

Ace’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, is heartworm tested, and dewormed. He is currently being fostered in the Valrico/Plant City, FL area.
