***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.*** Misty is a 3-year-old 12-pound Maltese mixed with some poodle. She absolutely loves laps and if she had a choice would sit on one 24/7. If she is not able to be on a lap, she either lays on the floor next to a person or follows him/her around the house. Misty adores her person! She came into 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue because her elderly owner had a bad fall and could no longer care for her dogs. We were told and have witnessed Misty having a nervous temperament. The fosters experienced her being clingy to the foster mother and cautious toward other family members. As she becomes more comfortable in the foster house, she is beginning to open up but then something scares her and she runs back to the foster mother. Misty is not potty trained. The family of the previous owner let 4LD know that the owner never trained her to go potties outside. The foster family started working on the training. 4LD want the adopter to know he/she will need to continue with this potty training which will require patience and understanding. Misty is young, extremely intelligent, and wants to please so with willingness by the adopter to take on the responsibility of additional potty training and setting a schedule Misty should be able learn the correct behavior of always going outside to pee. She lived with another dog so since she is comfortable with that situation Misty could be adopted as a second. But with her nervousness she should not live with more than one dog due to it being too intimidating for her. Misty loves people so she will also be perfectly fine as an only dog in the household getting all the owner’s attention. She has never lived with children before so a home without them or with much older kids would be the best environment for her. Misty tends to jump up on people and often scratch legs wanting attention or to get on a lap. Even though the foster family is working on stopping that behavior we realize it would not be good for children to go through that. She gets very excited when her leash is picked up. She runs around in circles and once the leash is clipped to her harness, she starts pulling on the leash saying “let’s go let’s go”. It is so cute to watch her enthusiasm. The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years. Therefore, Misty’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for her for around 12 more years so she will not have to move to a different home again. Misty’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, spayed, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, is heartworm tested, and dewormed. She is currently being fostered in the Valrico/Plant City, FL area.
