Misty is a 6-year-old Cavalier and Bichon mix (Cavachon) weighing around 18 pounds. She loves attention and is happiest when a human is close to her making her eyes light up with joy. And if she sees a person’s lap open, she will gladly jump up in it. She wags her tail a lot indicating she is a very cheerful and loving dog.

She likes to follow people around the house and is content to lay next to them, but if they get up to walk around, she is right by their side. Or if the person relocated too fast for her to notice, she explores each room looking for where she went. There is a cliché that if you own a dog, you are never alone when you go to the bathroom and that is very true of Misty who will want to be there with you too.

Misty craves attention, closeness, and constant companionship, so will need someone to be home a lot to keep her company or take her with him/her when going places. Her favorite activity is watching people. She wants to know what everyone in the house is doing and if she needs to be part of this action. Misty loves to be petted and the foster family has found the favorite spot is a belly rub. She also absolutely loves car rides jumping into the car as soon as the door opens then once moving, she is looking out the window wondering what adventure lies ahead.

When someone comes inside the house, he/she receives a huge greeting from Misty. Normally her tail wags frequently, but the excitement shown when she realizes a person has not been seen for a while causes her tail to wag faster than ever. And if someone new comes to visit or is encountered on a walk, since Misty is so friendly, she greets him/her as if the person is there specifically for her.

Misty is extremely intelligent and learned where everything is in the foster house after only a couple of days. From her previous owners she knows sit, stay, lay down, and drop it. When the foster mother works from home Misty positions herself on the floor next to her computer desk settling in for a nap or on the couch where the other dog hangs out. She also likes the living room sofa so she can be next to humans sitting on it or enjoying its comfort as she looks around the house. If someone rests on a piece of furniture where Misty will fit (like a chair) she jumps up on it partially laying on the lap with her face staring up at him/her wagging her tail saying “I am here and I want attention!”. When sleeping at night she prefers to be in the family’s bed to be as close as possible.

The foster family discovered Misty loves walking and wags her tail when on one. She gets so excited when her leash is being picked up (even simply to put it away) and sometimes she even gets up on the credenza to help facilitate the hooking up. Misty does pull on walks when she sees people or other animals but otherwise is a steady pleasant walker. Her foster mother found it amusing that on her first walk Misty picked up a piece of tree bark and carried it in her mouth for the entire walk. When she arrived back at the foster house Misty dropped the bark on the front porch leaving it there. Now each time Misty goes for a walk as she exits the front door she grabs that same piece of bark carrying it again for the length of that walk, and once again dropping it at the front porch entrance upon returning.

After spending time with Misty, 4LD concluded that she would be best as an only dog because that is how she lived the first years of her life. She gets along with her foster dog sister eating, walking, or hanging out in the same area, but Misty can be a bit defensive when other dogs are around wanting the attention for herself. We have also discovered she is not comfortable with bigger dogs. If the adopter family does have another dog, he/she would need to be the same size or smaller than Misty and be a dog that Misty can follow around as a leader.

4LD is recommending that Misty live in a house with older children or no children. She has the tendency to be reactive if she is being picked up unexpectedly or if something on the floor she wants is being grabbed. Once the foster family learned of her triggers, they knew how to avoid them but younger children may not understand.

Misty has some separation anxiety issues. She initially whines, howls, or barks if the foster family leaves the house. Once she calms down, she is slightly nervous about being alone either pacing around or looking out the windows. We want the adopter to be aware there will be adjustment time needed to work through Misty’s insecurity. For this reason, Misty MUST live in a single-family house – she cannot be in apartments or townhouses that have adjoining walls because of the noise she makes.

Misty has a food allergy to chicken and is picky about what food she does eat. Her previous owners tried various options and finally found a specific food she likes and does not cause her allergies to react such as constant itching. 4LD will let the adopter know the brand and type of this food so they can continue to keep her on it so her allergies stay under control. This is a special type of food from an online vendor so the applicant will need to plan for that additional higher expense.

She was surrendered to 4 Lucky Dogs due to a change in her family’s situation. They have had her since she was a puppy, and she has been well taken care of. The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years; therefore, Misty’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for her for around 9 more years so she will not have to move to a different home again.

Misty’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, spayed, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, heartworm tested, and dewormed. She is currently being fostered in the Plant City/Valrico Florida area.
