Chewie weighs 11 pounds and is 3 years old. He appears to be a Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix - a “Shorkie.” The rescue gave him the unique name of Chewbacca because he was found with so much matted fur 4LD was not sure if there was a dog buried in there!!! His coat is super short now because he had to be shaved due to severe matting upon rescue. However his soft, shiny fur will grow. He will most likely be a long coated pup who requires grooming. He plays an energetic game of fetch and loves to run and jump. He is affectionate, house trained, crate trained and knows basic commands. He loves to go for walks at a fast pace but he also enjoys snuggle and rest time. He adores plush squeaky toys. He sleeps soundly through the night. Chewie is shy but gentle upon meeting people. He is nonreactive to cats and needs slow introductions with other dogs. Chewie’s ideal home is most likely with mature adults who have time to shower affection and attention on him. 4 Lucky Dogs recommends Chewie be the only dog in the new home because he is a bit possessive with his people and loves being the center of attention. He may walk alongside another dog but it is more like tolerating that dog because he ultimately wants people’s concentration to be all on him. For someone looking for a best friend who will unconditionally love him/her wanting to be “the one” Chewie is that dog. Chewie tends to bark initially when left alone so a single family house (one without adjoining walls like an apartment or townhouse) would be best for him. The average lifespan for this breed is 15 years. Therefore, Chewie's adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 12 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. Chewie's adoption fee is $500. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, and up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots. He is currently being fostered in the New Tampa, FL area.
