Fresca is a 5-month-old (vet’s best guess) mixture of Jack Russel Terrier and Bull Terrier. She weighs 17 pounds and may grow to around 25 pounds.
Some words to describe her are energetic, outgoing, spunky, and affectionate. She has big black eyes which give her that adorable, dreamy look.
HAPPY DOG – YES
Fresca is an “everyone” type of dog equally loving all members of her foster family (mom, dad, children, etc.). This dog is friendly to each person wagging her tail as someone walks by her or giving a greeting by getting up on her hind legs. Even people she just met get a huge greeting from her. And watch out – she will lick a face endlessly showing how much she loves. And Fresca enjoys being told that she is a “good girl” wagging her tail even more.
PLAYFUL – YES
Play…play…nap…play…play…nap… is Fresca’s philosophy about life. Toys are a must for Fresca. She likes playing with stuffed animals or putting them beside her in a dog bed. When a ball is thrown, she will eagerly run to get it (still learning how to bring it back). Chewing on a bone (or human socks when she finds one on the floor) keeps her occupied for a while. Also running or exploring in the backyard is one of her favorite things to do.
GREAT ATTITUDE – YES
Fresca’s goal is to be where the action is whether it is in a specific room in the foster home or the kitchen where food is prepared. She may try doing something wrong like putting her front paws on the kitchen counter, but the second time she is told “no” she looks guilty and will stop. The fosters are guessing she is thinking “darn I got caught again but it was worth trying”.
DOG COMPATIBLE – YES
She loves playing with other dogs. Fresca is a puppy so she considers every dog or person she meets as her friend. She would be fine living in a permanent home as an only dog keeping herself entertained with toys, or living as a companion for another dog playing with him/her. With other dogs she will get down on her front paws asking “ready?”.
ADULTS AND KIDS – YES
Fresca will be at your feet so watch out! You turn around and there she is ready to see what you are doing. While the foster mother is working on the computer, she will lay quietly on the dog bed but when she sees her get up she gets up too ready to do whatever is next. Fresca also likes her foster dad and visits him frequently in his “man-cave” wanting to be pet or to see what he is eating or simply to lay on the dog bed next to him. And with Fresca’s puppy thought process she loves hanging out with kids considering them her dedicated playmates.
POTTY TRAINED – WORKING ON IT
Fresca is about 75% potty trained. She will go to the bathroom outside if she is taken out regularly and then praised for it. But she does have accidents in the house since she is a puppy and sometimes she needs to go right away. The adopter will need to continue with Fresca’s potty training especially since it will be a new environment for her.
LEASH WALKER – LEARNING
Fresca has done very well learning to walk on a leash (it was new to her before coming in 4 Lucky Dogs). Although walking is “fun and games” right now so does get distracted if she sees a bird or a squirrel. The adopter will need to continue to teach her this leash skill.
VET NEEDS – IN PROGRESS
Fresca needs one more puppy shot in two weeks which will also occur at the rescue vet office in Riverview, FL. This shot is included in the adoption fee that will be paid when adopting.
READY TO BE PART OF YOUR FAMILY – YES
Fresca’s adoption fee is $620. This dog comes up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, heartworm tested being negative, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed. She is currently being fostered in the Plant City/Valrico Florida area.
The average lifespan for this breed is 14 years; therefore, Fresca’s adopter will need to be prepared to keep her for around 13 more years so she will not have to move to a different home again.
***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***
